In “Carlsen Wins with White,” grandmaster Zenón Franco takes an in-depth look at 32 of Magnus Carlsen’s most instructive games, where the world champion wins by leading the white pieces.
This book is written in the “Move by Move” style, an excellent training tool that presents exercises and tests. This format is a great way to study the game of chess, improving both skills and knowledge, since the reader is led to the challenge of finding the best moves, with all the answers provided by the author.
Most of the games have been played recently by Magnus Carlsen, including one from 2020 and eight from 2019. His opponents are super grandmasters, including former world champions Viswanathan Anand and Vladimir Kramnik, as well as players of the caliber of Wesley So, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Alexander Grischuk, Levon Aronian, Boris Gelfand and, of course, Anish Giri.
In most of these matches, Carlsen demonstrates his remarkable ability to beat his opponents in the middlegame, simply by playing the strongest moves and applying constant pressure, thus breaking down the resistance of his opponents, who end up, under pressure, playing weaker moves. In some of the matches, however, this only occurs in the final phase of the game.
With a foreword by Chief Second and Magnus Carlsen's coach, Peter Heine Nielsen.
