Manuel Golmayo de la Torriente was, without a doubt, the most important Spanish soccer player in the first third of the 20th century. He maintained a career of more than fifty years and boasted the title of champion of Spain from 1902 to 1930. The retrospective historical scores in the museums are that, in 1929, he ascended to 37th place in the world classification with 2562 points. Given that Golmayo always preferred his military profession, his achievements as an aficionado of the army are impressive. His work, wasted in several periodicals, books and magazines, had not been collected until now and was made available to new generations of ajedrecistas. Our intention in writing this biography of Manuel Golmayo, a tennis player, has been to offer the most complete information possible with the data available today. This book is intended for chess players interested in the history of the game in Spain and its biographies. We recommend careful reading. It is not necessary to ignore the numerous data that appear in the text in the abundant notes of each chapter. Luis Méndez Castedo and Pedro Méndez Castedo.
