The Year of Women in Chess, declared by FIDE (International Chess Federation) in 2022, aims to promote the adoption of gender equality policies, practices and programs, encouraging women to actively participate in all aspects of chess life. The FIDE Women's Chess Commission has focused on connecting, inspiring and educating chess players of all backgrounds around the world. This book by Taís Julião, written by a woman and featuring games played by women, has something new: it aims to give greater visibility to chess played competitively by women, including as a tool for teaching chess, and constitutes a contribution to these objectives, which Editora Solis is now bringing to the Portuguese-speaking public and, soon, also to the English and Spanish-speaking public. All the examples in this book involve at least one female chess player: of the 35 games selected, 28 are between women (80%) and 7 are mixed (20%). At the end of the book, it is possible to see the large number of players selected: 42 in total, the result of extensive and dedicated research in search of the best teaching references. However, the book is not only intended for women who want to take the next step. The themes are classic and cover a good part of the content recommended for learning more about chess. Readers, regardless of gender, may be surprised by the quality and pedagogical value of the material analyzed, which for many will be the first contact with the chess production of these women from the world's chess elite.
